Champion Scissors to Move to Denaby

A burden of uncertainty has been lifted from the shoulders of the 60 employees of Champion Scissors, Ltd., the Mexborough firm whose factory stands in the middle of the route of Mexborough’s Relief Road.

On Wednesday, Mr. S. Fowler, Managing Director, told the “South Yorkshire Times” that the factory would be moved to new premises in Denaby — formerly occupied as a colliery canteen—in about six weeks.

“This is much better. There is room for expansion there, depending on the labour situation in Denaby,” he said.

Mr. Fowler said the factory would be moved to Denaby “lock, stock and barrel.” “The process will continue in exactly the same way as in Mexborough, but in much better premises,” he said.

Mr. Fowler said the firm had explored all possible avenues in Mexborough, but had been unable to find suitable premises.

“These in Denaby are ideal, however. A lot of our people come from the Denaby and Conisbrough side, anyway, and it is not very far from Mexborough.

“It is much better all round,” he said
