Canadian Visitor

An old Mexborough boy, Pte. J. W. Tarbuck, who emigrated to Canada at the age of 17, has recently revisited his native town as a Canadian soldier.

In 1914 he enlisted in the Canadian Army and returned to England. He served throughout the Great War in France. In 1919 he went back to Canada, taking with him a Mexborough girl as wife.

She was the daughter of Mrs. L. Stables, of 18, Albert Road, Mexborough. In 1940, enraged by the German blitz on this country, and the threat of invasion, he again enlisted and came over with the Fifth Canadian Armoured Division.

He has left a wife and two children to carry on his farm, assisted by friends. He says he in longing for the day of victory when he can return to Canada. He renewed many old acquaintances during his stay in the town.
