Boot Repairer who didn’t get to Mexborough

The defence of Patrick Dominic Kelly, bookmaker, late of Northampton, was very brief indeed.

He was charged in custody with begging at Balby and an officer told the court all about it.

“I only asked the way to Mexborough” declared Patrick,” “and they told me to go straight and keep my eyes open. Then the officers took hold of me, but he didn’t take me to Mexborough.” (Laughter)

Defendant was committed for seven days.
