Mexborough’s Heavy Defeat at Oakwell

Barnsley Reserves  4  Mexborough Town  0

Barnsley reserve, yesterday, at Oakwell gave an exhibition goals for and against Mexborough Town, the Don Valley team being beaten by four goals to nothing. Playing with the wind in the first half the home forwards played fine football, and 10 minutes from the start Roystone opened the scoring.

Wigmore followed a few minutes later, walking the ball through from a free kick by Roystone, who gave a very good display at outside left. Wigmore scored the third, after a miskick by Murray, and just before the interval Roystone added the fourth.

Mexborough had put up a very indifferent defence, but in the second portion played stronger, and will cop had to clear from Beaumont and wealthy. Round up considerably more work to do, however, and Rawlings almost netted.
