Appointment

Miss Fred Tupling, 16 Don View, Mexborough, for the past four years Deputy bandmaster of the Mexborough Military Ban, has been appointed Bandmaster to the 67 (Barnsley) York and Lancaster’s, A.A. Brigade, R.A.(T.A.)

Mr Tupling has had a distinguished musical career; he joined the Army upon leaving school, and was soon accepted at the Military School of Music, where he received the Cousins Memorial prize, given to the best five musicians of the year. He later joined the band of the Royal Artillery Brigade as a trombonist, and he served with the band for nine years.

Since then he is concentrating on orchestral work, and has played under some famous conductors, such as Dr Malcolm Sergeant. He is also played in theatre orchestras at Bournemouth and Doncaster, and was a member of the orchestra at the New Hippodrome when the theatre closed down.

During his career he has broadcast from nearly every station in the country.
