Ballots at Denaby.
Labour Members.
On Friday last, the miners of the Denaby Colliery were called upon to ballot to show whether or not they would agree to support a fund having for its aim the sending to Parliament of more labour members.
The following is the form of ballot —
” Yorkshire Miners Association,—The miners’ annual federation conference have resolve that in order to have more labour members of Parliament and working for the interest of the miners in the British House of Commons it will be necessary for members of the above Association to contribute one shilling per year levy for this purpose.”
It need hardly be mentioned that the majority of the miners very much favoured the idea, and are quite eager to support it.
There is no doubt that the scheme would be very useful, and I would like it much more if it extended to other branches of employment.
Some such project will have to be accomplished before miners can force home and impress their desires with any chance of success upon the classes.
Result of ballot:—
For 607
Against 142
Revised Price List
The Council of the Miners’ Association have resolved that a ballot vote be taken at the Denaby and Cadeby Main Collieries, for the purpose of ascertaining whether the workmen at these collieries wish for a revised price list.
The ballot resulted as follows:
For 884
Against 87
Spoilt 3
Majority For 794
The Cadeby Main miners have not completed the ballot, owing to being off work yesterday. The stoppage was caused by a boiler defect
