An Unhappy Mexborough Marriage

Robert Brown, a glass founder, of Mexborough, was summoned by his wife, Maud Mary Brown, for deserted her.

Complainant said that she had been married to defendant 12 years next Mexborough Feast Monday. Defendant was a glass hand and earned 38 shillings per week. There had not been living together for three years, but she had seen him regularly in the street. Since they had lived apart defendant had given her 10 shillings per week, with exception of the last 14 weeks, when she had not received anything from him. She asked for a separation order and maintenance.

A separation order was granted, and the defendant was ordered to pay his wife 10 shillings per week.
