Airman Missing
Mr. and Mrs. G. Hibbert, of the Main Street Working Men’s Club, have received information that their eldest son, Sergt. Colin Whitehead (22), has been reported missing from recent operations over enemy territory.
Sergt. Whitehead, who was a flight engineer in a heavy bomber, had almost completed his tour of operations and was to have been given commissioned rank in the near future.
He joined the R.A.F. seven years ago, going straight from Mexborough Secondary School and four years ago he was drafted to British West Africa, where he spent 18 months on the ground staff.
Returning to England, he became a member of an air-crew.
A letter his parents have received from his station commander pays tribute to his cheerful bearing and untiring zeal in the performance of his duties.
