Killed On Bomber Raid
Mexborough Flight Engineer
A promising career in the R.A.F. was cut short by the death last Thursday of Sgt. Leslie Sale (31), of 94, Albert Road, Mexborough. Sgt. Sale is reported to have been killed in the course of operations against enemy territory.
Sgt. Sale had achieved his ambition of becoming a flight engineer in the R.A.F., for which he volunteered about 15 months ago. He had been on active operations with bomber command several weeks, and was attached to a Canadian Air Force Station.
A native of Mexborough, he went to Adwick Road School, and when he volunteered was working at Messrs Baker and Bessemer, Ltd.
A pathetic feature of his death was that as recently as November 13th this year he was married to Miss Horton, of Yardley, Birmingham. He was the second son of Mrs. Sale, whose husband was killed in the last war.
The funeral took place at Mexborough on Tuesday.
