Memorial Gift To School

Brothers and sisters of Flying Officer Harold Platt, of Mexborough, who lost his life while serving with the Royal Air Force in Norway have presented to Armthorpe Modern School, where Flying Officer Platt formally taught, a silver cup to be competed for in an inter-house football competition.

The presentation was made at a formal assembly in the school hall, when the headmaster, Mr. H. Crowder, introduced Mr. A. E Platt, headmaster of Station Road, Conisbrough, who is a brother of Flying Officer Platt. Mr. Platt explained to the boys the thought behind the gift, and handed over the cup to the head boy, Maurice Stephenson. He said Flying Officer, Platt, who was games master, was one of the most popular masters the school had ever had, and referred in terms of high appreciation to the useful service which he had been able to do there.

The cup would be an acceptable memorial of the many happy and useful years he had spent with them.
