Mexborough R.A.F. Officer in Crash

The tragic news that their son, Flying Officer Harold Platt had been killed in a flying accident in Norway, was received yesterday (Thursday) afternoon by Mr. and Mrs. Albert Platt of “Oakwood,” Doncaster Road, Mexborough.

The news came in a telegram from the Air Ministry which stated that the accident happened at Kjevik, Chirstiansund, Norway, on Wednesday July 4th.

F. O. Platt was 34 and an old pupil of Mexborough Secondary School. He attended Loughborough College, and later took up a post as games master at Armthorpe Modern School and later at Thorne, joining the R.A.F. five years ago, he saw service in the Orkney Islands, France, Belgium and Germany before going to Norway.

F. O. Platt was a member of the Mexborough Green Room Club and Mexborough Operatic Society and was well-known in the district. His wife, formerly Miss Brenda Buxton of Stoke -on-Trent is a member of the W.A.A.F. F.O. Platt is the youngest of five brothers who have served in the last war and the present one.  The funeral is to take place in Norway on Saturday.
