Buried In Norway
Mrs. H. Platt, wife of Flying Officer Harold Platt, who, as reported in the South Yorkshire Times recently, was killed in an aircraft accident in Norway has received a letter from the Officer commanding the unit.
The letter mentions that the funeral took place at Tveit, Kjevik, near Chirstiansund, being conducted by an R.A.F. Church of England Chaplain at the Tveit Parish Church, the interment afterwards taking place in the churchyard. The coffin was covered with the Union Jack and carried by men of Flying Officer’s wing; the Last Post being sounded at the graveside. Among the wreaths sent was one from the local villagers, which was laid on the coffin by the pastor of the parish.
Mrs. Platt has also received a letter from the chaplain who officiated at her husband’s funeral. He says the church was beautifully decorated with flowers for the service. Flying Officer Platt was the son of Mr. and Mrs. A. Platt, “Oakwood,” Doncaster Road, Mexborough, and was an old pupil of Mexborough Secondary School.
