Air Gunner Missing

Mrs. Hodgkinson, only daughter of Mr. C. Marks, a well-known tradesman and Mrs. Marks of 68, Main Street, Mexborough, received official notification that her husband Sergt Air Gunner Hodgkinson (36) has been reported missing following a raid on Germany.

Sergt. Hodgkinson is a son of the late Mr. Thomas S. Hodgkinson, a former well-known butcher in the town and Mrs. Hodgkinson of 12, Argyle Street, Mexborough.  He joined the  R.A.F four years ago.  Until last September, when he volunteered for air crew duties, he was a balloon operator.  He completed his training in this country in February and joined the bomber crew.

Before joining up he was employed in his father-in-law’s shop  He was a prominent member of St George’s Church and for a time a member of the Church Council.  He was associated with the Green Room Club, played hockey with the old Mexborough team and tennis with the Parish Church Club.
