Pilot Officer Sydney Heald

Mrs. Heald of 24, Manor Road, Swinton, was informed that her husband Pilot Officer Syndey Heald (36), who was reported missing from a raid on Berlin on November 26th, is now believed to have lost his life.

Pilot Officer Heald went to Adwick Road School, Mexborough and was a clerk in the Public Assistance Office at Thurnscoe, before joining the R.A.F. over three years ago.

He served for 10 months in the Middle East before returning home over a year ago to operate with Bomber Command, and had taken part in many raids on enemy territory as a wireless operator-air gunner.

He was a member of the old Claremont Tennis Club and later joined Manvers Sports Club.

He is son of Mrs. Gordon, 16, Crossgate, Mexborough and the late Mr. Heald, his father being killed during the last war.
