Sergt. Arthur Henry Daines (19), only son Mr. and Mrs. D. Daines, “Melrose,”, Doncaster Road, Mexboro’, was reported missing from a raid on Berlin on the night of March 24th and 25th, while serving as an air gunner with the crew of a heavy bomber of the R.A.F.

Recently his parents have received official notification that according to information sent through the International Red Cross Committee, Sergt. Daines is believed to have lost his life as a result of air operations.

Joining the R.A.F. in March 1943, Sgt. Daines was the first cadet from 697 (Manvers, Mexborough and Conisborough) Squadron, A.T.C., to become an air crew sergeant. An old boy of Adwick Road Modern School he was employed as a shunter on the L.N.E. Railway at Kilnhurst.
