Glider Pilot Missing
Mrs. K. E. Christieson, only daughter of Mr. and Mrs. Booker, 55, Adwick Road, Mexborough, on Friday received official intimation that her husband, Staff-Sgt. J. R. Christieson, of the Glider Pilot Regiment, has been posted missing from Sept 25th in North-West Europe.
Before joining his old regiment, at the outbreak of war, Staff-Sergt Christieson was in the Metropolitan Police Force. With the Guards he saw service in Norway in 1940, transferring to the Intelligence Corps as physical training instructor on returning to this country, later volunteering for the Army Air Corps, and with the Glider Pilot Regiment was in North Africa and Italy.
Staff-Sgt. Christieson piloted a Hamilcar tank-carrying glider to Normandy in the D-Day landings, returning to take part in the airborne attack on Holland.
Mrs. Christieson, his wife, is employed as a clerk at Mexborough Post Office.
