A Mexborough Man Robbed While Asleep.

On Wednesday, at the Doncaster Borough Police Court, George Willey, boat hauler, Church street, Mexborough, brought a charge against George Leadbeater, Mexborough ; Thomas Wrigley and James Welsh, Doncaster ; and John Lightowler, of Knottingley, of having robbed him of the sum of 18s.

It appeared from Willey’s statement that on the               previous day he had charge of a barge on the canal, and that, owing to the wet, he stopped at Doncaster. He visited the New River Tavern, and remained there some time, eventually falling asleep. On awaking be found he had been robbed, the 18s. which had been in his trousers pocket having been transferred to somebody else’s. Prisoners were present in the room, and were there before he fell asleep. He accused Lightowler of having taken the money from him, but the man denied it. Information was given to the police, and the prisoners were arrested.

Chief-Constable Lister applied for a remand, which was granted.
