A Heavy Judgement

It is a heavy judgement indeed that has fallen upon the town of Swinton.

The Postmaster General has ordained that the official postal address shall henceforth be “Swinton, MEXBOROUGH.”

This is a grievous indignity and we can enter into the outraged feelings of Swintonians with regard to it.  It is indeed an injustice not to be endured and Swinton would be justified in taking almost any method of escaping so undeserved a humiliation.

It is not perhaps for us to come to the aid of Swinton’s native wit in such a matter, but if we may offer a suggestion, the best and easiest way out might be for Swinton to change its name and address by the same operation, amalgamating with Mexborough under the title of Swinborourgh, a remedy which from the Swinton point of view may be drastic but on the whole not worse than the disease.
