A Goal Scorer.

Mr . Tomkins and his colleagues, in their tours of the district in search of the men to start Mexboro’s Midland League campaign, found Harold Wroe, whose exploits with that notable junior team, Ardsley, last season, had reached their ears.

Wroe’s part in’ Ardsley’s wonderful year of cup-tie successes was enough, to persuade them that he was a likely man to fill their bill, and so he is engaged for Mexboro’ as centre-forward.

His record for last season is 66 goals for Ardsley, and his dashing and shrewd leadership of the Ardsley attack, coupled with his consistent opportunities, is one of the leading items in the great chapter of Ardsley football history that last season’s performances take up.

If he can settle down into Mexboro’s team and stand the severe test of a gruelling Midland League campaign, he may prove as notable a forward as Mexboro’ have “brought out” since Joe Beresford went to Aston via Mansfield.

Wroe is only 23, and is well enough built: 5ft. 9 and 12st. 12. Wroe was married on Monday at Worsboro’ Parish Church to Miss May Atkinson, daughter of Mrs. and the late Mr. W. Atkinson, of Sheffield Road, Birdwell. She was given away by her brother, and wore white georgette over silk, with hat to match and carried a bouquet of roses.
