A Dainty Starlet – Clever Little Mexborough Artist

November 1937

Mexborough and Swinton Times November 19, 1937

This is Freda. Mexborough’s four-year oId Shirley Temple.

But no, she has a personality very definitely her own, though she bids fair one day to climb to the same pinnacle of popularity as the little film star.

She is the daughter of Mr. and Mrs. J. J. Woffinden, of Church Street, and although she has appeared only twice in public before, at St. George’s Church Schoolroom last year, and at the Parish Church Hall a few months ago, she received a most encouraging reception from the packed audience at the charity film and concert at the Empire on Sunday.

Freda has gleaming golden hair and a most fascinating smile and when she sings and dances she positively holds you in the hollow of her hand.

As temperamental as a great star, she simply won’t rehearse if she doesn’t want to; but place her before a large audience !
