An All-Round Sport.
Mr. Arthur Mackford who refereed the Montagu Cup final so well on Friday is an all-round Sportsman. He is a clever and efficient referee and is one of the local men who are coming into prominence in this respect.
He is also a keen cricketer, having played with Swinton, and he is now with Mexboro’. He was with Swinton for three years during which he won the bowling average each year. He has been with the Mexboro’ club for two seasons and will play with them this season. He has won the bowling averages also at Mexboro for the past two years. Whilst with Swinton, in one match he took 9 wickets for 12 runs. Five of the wickets were taken in one over.
He has also played a good deal of junior football in the district.
He scored 40 goals in his first season with the Swinton P.M. some years ago.
He has had considerable experience as a referee in the Rawmarsh Minor League.
