Pte. Robert Boon (Cyclist Corps), Hope street, Mexboro’, on Saturday evening at the South Yorkshire Hotel, Mexboro’, received from the workmen of the Phoenix Glass Bottle. Works, Mexboro’, where he was formerly employed, a gold albert and chain in recognition of his haying been awarded the Military Medal for gallantry  in action in France, last March, when in company with an officer and seven men, he held an important road for many hours, and enabled an enemy advance to be checked.  The officer and Pte. Boon were the only survivors.

Mr. G. H. Liversedge presided over the presentation ceremony, and the presentation was made by Mr. Alexander Barron, head of the firm. Mr. Barron was supported by Mr. Edmund Taylor, secretary of the Swinton branch of the Glass Bottle Makers’ Union, and by ex-Spr. James Leadbeater,

Warm tributes to the valour and devotion of Pte. Boon were, paid, and therecipient modestly responded that he had only done his duty.

Pte. Boon has been serving’ three years and four months. During the evening an excellent concert programme was provided by Messrs.’ A, Dryden, H. Kay, Jonas, Pomeroy, Tune, and Laughton, and votes of thanks concluded a very enjoyable evening.
