Soldier – Baldwin, Fred – Wounded in Action

Private Fred Baldwin youngest son of Sergt. and M.rs. Baldwin, Highwoods Rd, Adwick-on-Dearne. has been wounded in action in France. He was one over a patrol who, in the midst; of early morning closely approached the German lines and came under heavy shell fire. A corporal was badly hit. Pte. Baldwin picked him ‘up and carried him toward the British lines. He was under, heavy rifle fire all the way and was shot through the hip before he reached shelter. He managed, however, to deposit the corporal in a trench and- to leave him in caree and then made his way to a dressing-station which he reached after sheltering for three hours from shell-fire.

His father is serving with the R.A.M.C. in Palestine, and a brother, Leonard, is in France.
