Second Lieutenant. R. C. Snow, R.G.A.
Second-Lieut. Robert Colin Snow (R.G.A.), of .Victoria-road, Mexborough, second son of Mr. Robert Snow, of Adwick-on-Dearne, secretary to the Manvers Main Collieries, Ltd., has been awarded the Military Cross for gallantry in action and devotion to duty, on March 21, 1918.
Second-Lieut. Snow, who is 33 years of age and married; has been serving about two years, and received his commission after a few months’ training in the ranks. Before enlistment he was on the staff of Messrs. Tasker’s Engineering Company, Sheffield., and represented that firm in this district.
He is an “old boy ” of -the Sheffield Grammar School and studied electrical engineering at the Sheffield University, obtaining honours.
Before joining the Army he was greatly interested in military training, and was in command of the Mexboro’ and Swinton Home Defence Corps, the precursor of the present Mexboro’ and Swinton Volunteer unit. He was also a member of the Mexborough Rifle Club. He was very fond of tennis and assisted to form the Mexborough Tennis Club.
The news that he has distinguished ‘himself in action will give more pleasure than surprise to his numerous friends in the district.
