Golden Wedding

Mr and Mrs James Scott. 62, Dale Street, Shipley, near Bradford, former residents of Mexborough. celebrate their Golden Wedding tomorrow.

They were married at Mexborough Parish Church on December 6th., 1897, by Canon Bateman, and lived in Mexborough until 1920. Mr. Scott, a native of Mexborough, has worked on the railway all his life, and retired six years ago at the age of 65 He had been a fireman at Mexborough for several years, and was then transferred to Shipley, where he has remained.

Mrs. Mary Ann Scott (nee Ward), born in Stenton’s Yard, Mexborough, 70 years ago, was one of 14 children. Her father was a boatman on the Sheffield and South Yorkshire Canal at Mexborough. She started working as a postwoman at Shipley Post Office during the war, and is still there. Mrs Scott has always enjoyed the best of health.

There are four generations in the Scott family, and they have four sons and one daughter, eight grand-children, and three great grand-children.
