Mexborough and Swinton Times January 13, 1928
The report of the Medical (Dr J McArthur) contains some interesting statistics.
During the last quarter of 1927 there were 58 male and 58 female births, equal to a rate of 25.77 per 1,000, against the approximate rate for the 105 county boroughs and great towns of 16.5 per 1,000.
Our deaths make us into a health ‘resort, for we only had 23 male and 16 female, equal to a rate of 8.66 per 1,000, against the approximate rate for the aforementioned towns of 11.5 per 1,000.
Infantile mortality is again on the wrong side after having shown an improvement, the figures being 94.82 per 1.000 births, against the approximate rate of 64.6.
On those last figures we cannot congratulate ourselves. There were 8 cases of diphtheria, 3 of enteric fever, 12 of scarlet fever, and 22 of tuberculosis (12 of pulmonary and 10 of non-pulmonary notified).
