On Regional Hospital Board
Honour for Mr. A. R Martin
A signal distinction has been conferred on Mr. A. R. Martin, Newlyn, Adwick Road, Mexborough, Headmaster of Foulstone Modern School, Darfield, and chairman of the Board of Management of Mexborough Montagu Hospital.
Nominated by the Sheffield Area Committee of the British Hospitals Association on which body he represents Mexborough hospital, Mr. Martin has been invited by the Ministry of health to sit for three years on the Sheffield Regional Board to administer the New National Health Act which next year will take over all Public A.ithority and Voluntary Hospitals and institutions.
Much preliminary work will have to be done before next April, notably .by the Sheffield Regional Board which covers Rutlandshire, Lincolnshire, Nottinghamshire, Leicestershire, the greater part of Derbyshire (excluding the north west in the Manchester area), and South Yorkshire.
There are only n limited numb seats on the Board approximately half of which are filled by professional appointment and approximately half by lay representatives, including representatives from County Boroughs and County Councils throughout the area. Under the new Act the country has been divided into 12 regions centres coinciding with university cities. Seats on the Regional Board are for three years, two years and one year; members will be eligible for re-election at the conclusion of their term.
Mr. Martin is a member of the Council of the British Hospitals Association and of the Executive. He is chairman of the Sheffield Area Committee.
Mr. Martin has been prominently associated with hospital administration for over a quarter of a century. A Trustee and Life Governor of the Mexborough hospital, Mr. Martin was first connected with it when he lived in Kilnhurst and represented that area as a member of the Board. He was at one time headmaster of Kilnhurst Council School and of Adwick Road Modern School, Mex-borough.
