Pte. John James Wagstaff
(York and Lancaster.)
Private Wagstaff who was the third son of the late Mr. G H Wagstaff, and of Mrs. Wagstaff, butcher, 136, Doncaster Rd, Mexborough, died of wounds on Oct 18 in a. casualty clearing station in France, his injuries having been received the same day. His mother has had several messages of sympathy from the front.
Pte. Wagstaff was 22 years of age, single, and enlisted in May, 1916. He was in partnerhip with his mother and brothers in a family business.
He was wounded at Messines last June, and recovered in Scottish hospitals, returning to France on Sept. 11.
