Notification from Major R Carr has been received that Gunner Dodson of 107 Main Street Mexborough was killed instantaneously on October 1 while the battery was being shelled.

In a letter of sympathy to his wife he states that he was buried with one of his comrades in a military Cemetery, about 2 miles from the battery position.

He was a married man, aged 35, leaves a widow and three children, and carried on business as a fruiterer at Main Street, Mexborough.

He enlisted in June 7, 1916, and went to France in October 30, 1916. Previous to enlistment he was employed at the Wath Brewery of Messrs Whitworth, Son and Nephew, where he has been employed about 18 years.

Another brother, Gunner George Dodson (R.G.A.), is serving in France.
