July 1917

Mexborough and Swinton Times July 28, 1917

Mrs Thomas Dainty, 74 Dolcliffe Road, Mexborough, has two sons serving with the forces.

The eldest, Private Arthur Braithwaite (left – son of a former marriage) is with the RAMC in France. He is 30 years of age, married and his home is at Wentworth Road, Kilnhurst.

When the war broke out he was working at Warren Vale as a miner. He enlisted at once, and was quickly drafted to France, where he has been serving ever since.

He was recently home on leave.

The other son, Rifleman TW Dainty (right – Rifle Brigade), single, aged 20, enlisted in April 1915, being then employed as a miner at Denaby Main.

About six months ago he received a shrapnel wound in the foot and has only recently been discharged from hospital, and drafted to Ireland.
