Her Son’s Medal
Bereaved Mexborough Mother Decorated By the King

Mrs R King of 7 Cross Gate, Mexborough on Monday, at Hull, received from the King the Military Medal, posthumously awarded to private Thomas King (K.O.Y.L.I.).

Private King was killed in France on June 30, 1916.

Mrs King states that the King and Queen greeted her very kindly. The King asked if that was her Sons photo, she was wearing in a lucky. She said it was, and that another photograph she was wearing was of another son serving. (Mrs King has given four sons to the Army).

The King expresses sincere sympathy, saying her son was a brave lad, and the medal will be something to look upon in time to come. He hoped her three remaining sons will be spared and would come through safely. He then shook and with heartily.

Private King was 25 years of age, and enlisted in October 1914. Prior to enlistment he worked at Manvers Main.
