Mexborough Soldier Commended

Corporal G.E.S. Lowe (York and Lancaster) aged 42, son of Mr Edward Lowe, Hallgate, Mexborough, has been serving in France 18 months, and as a result of good work in recent fighting, received the following certificate signed by Major General C. Roos:

“Your commanding officer and brigade commander have informed me that you distinguish yourself by of very great courage and initiative at Hulluch, during our bombardment of May 22.”

Cpl Lowe has since received an intimation that he is to be awarded the Military Medal for the services referred to.
