Presentations to Former Wath Miners
At Wath Main Colliery yesterday afternoon before several hundred begrimed miners, presentation were made to former employees at the colliery, Sgt John McCall, of the K.O.Y.L.I., of Mexborough and Lance Corporal George Heppinstall, fifth York and Lancaster Regiment, of Bolton on Dearne, who had won the Military Medal.
McGall gained his for holding a “sap” with a bombing part of 12 men against the enemy for 36 hours, while Heppinstall showed conspicuous bravery in the field.
Mrs Yates Moss, the chairman of the Directors, made the presentation and he was supported by Messrs GH Ashwin, S Kelly, H Baker, WA Bownas, H Cox and Councillor Atkins.
Amidst huge cheers Mr Moss pinned the medals on the breasts of McCall and Heppinstall.
