Private Amos Henshaw
(York and Lancaster)

47 Wath Rd, Mexborough, was killed in action April 28.

Before enlistment, in August 1914, he was a miner, employed at Manvers Main.

He was single, aged 30, went to France in July 1916. His father received the following letter from Lance Corporal Jenkinson:

“It is with deepest regret that I write to inform you of the death of your son Amos. He was killed on the night of April 28 (while on duty at centre in the trench), by a shell, and death was instantaneous.

He has been brought back in very near here, and they cross marks the spot where he lies. He was the best of comrades and well liked by all of those, particularly the boys with whom he spent all this active service.

We all join extending to you our deepest sympathy in your loss.”
