Mexborough Tradesmen Saved

News had been received and Mrs Earnshaw, 14 Doncaster Rd, Mexborough that her husband private William Earnshaw (A.S.C.M.T.) who was recently drafted to the East was saved from a torpedoed transport.

He states he had to “swim for it,” but thanks to his lifebelt he kept afloat until help arrived.

He was in the water several hours.

The rescued were most kindly treated by the people of the port at which they were landed.

Private Earnshaw enlisted some months ago, and was previously engaged in business in Mexborough and District as a greengrocer
