Private Peter Barron (K.O.Y.L.I. Territorials)

Mr Fred Barron, of Glass House Lane, Mexborough, received news on Tuesday that his brother, Private Peter Barron  had been killed in action in France.

The Company Sergeant Major writes:

“It is was very deep regret that I have to inform you of the death of Private Peter Barron.

Peter, along with a few more comrades, was doing some good work on the frontline parapets when a German sniper caught him, and he was killed instantly.

I am sure you have all our deepest sympathy in your great loss, as he was a good man and well liked by all and his company. He was buried with military honours just behind the line. He was always full of fun, and will be greatly missed by us all.”

Private Barron enlisted in November 1914, and went to France in August 1915.

He was formerly employed at the Phoenix Glass Works, and was the youngest son of the late Mr Thomas Barron, formerly head of the firm. He was 35 years of age and single. He had a brother serving in Salonika.
