Lance Cpl Albert Henry King of 8, Leach Road, Mexborough, has been killed in action. The following letter has been received by his wife:

“I deeply regret to inform you that your husband was killed in action on July 1. A shell burst among four men and he was among the killed. He had just been put into my platoon. Although he had not been with me long before I found his real worth.

We buried him close by, and the Major read a short burial service over him. He died a gallant death.”

Lance Corporal King leaves a widow and two children.
