“Ferry” Bridge is “Essential”

The provision of a bridge over the River Don between Old Denaby and Mexborough to replace the existing ferry service is essential and should be proceeded with Doncaster Rural Council considers, but as they are not the responsible authority they are not prepared to contribute to the cost.

This information is to be sent by the Rural Council to the West Riding County Council.

The Rural Council Clerk, Mr. B. Meldrum, has reported to his Council’s Finance Committee that as the Rural Council have no statutory authority to make a contribution towards the cost of providing such a bridge, the Minister’s sanction would have to be obtained in order that the Council could give financial assistance to the scheme.
