The death occurred at the Isolation Hospital, Conisborough, on Saturday, of John Waite, aged 11, 29, Garden Street, Mexborough, who had given promise as a runner.

Besides winning at district sports, he was the most prominent competitor of the recent school sports. The interment took place at Mexborough Cemetery on Wednesday, Rev. W. Simpson officiating. The mourners were Miss M. Waite, Mr. Alf. Waite, Misses Rachael and Edith Waite, Miss Annie Waite, Mr. and Mrs. B. H. Berry (Denaby), Masters Benjamin and Harry Berry, Miss May Berry, Masters Gordon and Raymond Berry (Denaby Main), Mr. M. Waite, Mr. and Mrs. T. Stones (West Melton), Mr. D. Hale (Bradford), Mr. and Mrs. Jos. Hale (Swinton), Mr. and Mrs. I. Howarth (Barnbro’), Mrs. K. Hunter, Mr. and Mrs. T. Stanton, Mr. W. Marley, Mr. E. Wain, Mr. and Mrs. C. Bisby, Mr. and Mrs. J. Glennon and Mr. and Mrs. J. Power. Mr. W. Marrow represented the Church and Sunday School (Congregational).

Wreaths were sent from his mother and relatives, Superintendent, Teachers and Scholars of Mexborough Congregational Schools, “Cyril Willey,” Mr. and Mrs. W. Cocking, Mr. and Mrs. A. Taylor, Mr. and Mrs. Ryder, Mr. and Mrs. C. Bisby, Mr. and Mrs. I. Howarth and Harold, Mesdames Hayes, Scott, Ravenhand and Walker, and friends and neighbours. The funeral arrangements were by Mr. John White, Bank Street, Mexborough.
