Police Court Briefs
The following fines were imposed at Doncaster on Tuesday: Dog without licence, George Edward Sheldrake, miner, Mexborough, 10s.; cycle, no front light, Thomas Patterson, miner, Thurnscoe, 6s.; cycling on footpath, Arthur Parsons, mechanic, Mexborough, 7s. 6d.; failing to conform to traffic signal, George Vardy, glass hand, Mexborough, and Joseph Myers Nuttall, Swinton, 7s. 6d. each; motor vehicles without two independent brakes; Eric Swingler, bricklayer, Mexborough, 15s.; James Pears, hawker, Denaby, 20s.; and Wilfred Pugh, labourer, Swinton, 20s.; railway trespass, Harry Owens, miner, Mexborough, and Albert Heathcote, miner, Mexborough, 10s. each, and Jesse Hart, miner, Mexboro’, 10s.
David Pritchford, a clerk, of Darfield, was fined 25s. at Barnsley on Wednesday for not giving audible warning when riding a motor-cycle over cross-roads at Hoyland Common.
Kenneth Hinchliffe, teacher, Wombwell, was fined 20s. for driving a motor-cycle with an inefficient brake at Barugh.
A maintenance order of 40s. per week was granted by the Rotherham West Riding magistrates on Monday to Edith Evers, now of Greasborough, against her husband, Ernest William Evers (39), master plumber, of Beech Road, Wath.
“I never swore in my life,” said William Marren, labourer, Thurnscoe, when summoned at Barnsley on Friday for being drunk and disorderly. Fined 5s. and costs.
Frederick Hall, labourer, Carlton, was fined 5s. at Barnsley on Friday for stealing coal. Similar fines for stealing coal were imposed on Eli Goodwin, colliery worker, Thurnscoe; Thomas Dunwell, colliery worker, Thurnscoe; George Stonier (senr.), George Stonier (junr.) and Harold Marshall, colliery workers, Cudworth.
James Jefferson, painter, Thurnscoe, was fined 10s. for driving a motor-cycle without two independent brakes. On a similar summons James Brunt, labourer, Canklow, was fined £1.
“The noise was like a repeating rifle,” said P.C. Tully at Doncaster on Saturday, when Frank Hibbard, motor driver, Mexborough, was fined £1 for having an inefficient silencer on his motor-cycle.
