Walters & Thornton

Members of two well-known Mexborough families were married at Mexborough Parish Church on Monday. by the Rev. W. P. Ind: Miss Zillah Thornton, second daughter of Mr. and Mrs. J. Thornton, Lousy House, Herbert Street; and Mr. Frank Walters. Second son of Mrs. and the late Mr. G. Walters, 83, Victoria Road. Mexborough.

The ceremony was a quiet one owing to the recent death of the bridegroom’s father. The bride has spent six and a half years in the nursing profession, awl the bridegroom is in business as a transport contractor.

The service was choral, with Mr. J. Edwards at the organ, and the hymn “The Voice that breathed o’er Eden” was sung.

The bride wore a gown and coatee of gold satin trimmed with fur, and gold hat, and’ carried cream tea roses. She was attended by her niece, Kathleen Thornton, wearing blue silk marocain and beige and blue georgette cape, and carrying pink carnations.

Mr. A. Thornton was best man, and Messrs. J. Smith and J. Lofthouse were groomsmen. The bridegroom’s gift to the bridesmaid was a necklace. The bride’s mother wore a dress of green silk marocain and grey velour hat, and carried lemon chrysanthemums.
