White Lane  63 for 7  Mexboro’  59

This match, played at White Lane on Saturday, resulted in a victory for the home team by three wickets, after a most exciting game. Mexboro’ won the toss, but made a shocking start, five wickets going down for nine.

W. Bennett and A. Mitchell improved the position with some resolute batting, and the partnership realised 25 runs before the former was clean bowled. Bright left A. Mitchell full as stated, but with the departure of the former for an invaluable 25 the end soon came, Mexboro’ being all out for 59, a better total than at one time seemed probable.

Barraclough bowled well, taking five wickets for 18 runs. B. Platts was in for 21, and J. Mallinson two for two. White Lane followed up their good form by making a very promising start, W. Chambers and C. Wilson adding up 20 without being separated.

With the score taken to 24, W. Nicholson took the ball from Feirn, and in his first over dismissed three batsmen for six runs. Then came a stern struggle, and with six wickets down for 52 the result looked very open, but some excellent batting by J. Norton, who knocked up 23 not out, the home team eventually secured victory.

W. Nicholson secured four wickets for nine runs, and Feirn three for 22.
