Assault At Mexboro’

Jno. Knowland, collier, Denaby, was summoned for assaulting James Hy. Burdin, collier, of Mexboro’, at that place on the 30th June.

Complainant stated that on the previous Saturday he was in Mexboro’, when the defendant struck him three times in the face, and he gave him no “information” to do it.

Mary Ann Speckman said she was in the Market-place, Mexboro’, when she saw the defendant strike complainant two or three times.

Defendant said on the morning of the occurrence the complainant struck a man old enough to be his father, and was talking about it when he (defendant) told him he ought to be ashamed of himself. Complainant said he would serve him the same, and they both stood up to fight. He called Patrick McKay in support of his statement.

An order was made on the defendant to pay the costs, amounting to 17s. 6d.
