Drunkenness
Geo. Kitchen, collier, Mexboro’, and Richd. Parey, collier, Denaby, were charged with drunkenness on licensed premises at Mexboro’ on the 27th ult.
Police-constable Cade stated that on the 27th June, about 2.30 p.m., he visited the Golden Fleece Inn, Mexboro’, and found the two defendants in the taproom drunk. He called the attention of Mrs. Basford to the occurrence, and told her that the defendants were drunk. She said that they had had no drink on the premises, and turned them out. Each of the defendants was fined 5s. and costs.
Jno. Booth, labourer, Conisbro’, was summoned for a similar offence on the 29th ult. Police-constable Morden stated that he was on duty near the Station Hotel, Conisbro’, and saw the defendant, who admitted that he was very sick. Shortly afterwards he saw the defendant in the Station Hotel, who was ordered out by the landlord. Defendant was ordered to pay 5s. and 13s. 6d. costs.
Richd. Cross, labourer, Mexboro’, was summoned for drunkenness on the 30th ult. Police-constable Webber stated that on the day named he was going down the Wath road, and saw the defendant lying on a doorstep in a helpless state of drunkenness. A penalty of 20s. and 13s. 6d. costs, or one month’s imprisonment, was imposed.
Joseph Cooper, labourer, Conisbro’, was charged with drunkenness on licensed premises on the 30th ult. at Conisbro’. Chas. Bowler, waiter at the Station Inn, said the defendant was drunk on those premises. Witness asked him to leave, but he refused to do so. Police-constable Kendall stated that at 8.40 p.m. he was on duty near the Station Inn, and saw the waiter, who asked him to lock the defendant up, as he was refusing to go out. Defendant was fined 10s. and 17s. 6d. costs.
