Miners’ Meeting at Mexborough
A large meeting of the men employed at Denaby Main Colliery was held last night at the Miners’ Arms, Mexborough. The object of the meeting was to take into consideration a series of grievances of which the men complain.
In some cases they complain of having been kept in the pit, although it was impossible for them to work, from ten o’clock in the forenoon until two in the afternoon. It was stated that an attempt had been made to break through certain arrangements respecting tools, and a reduced rate for certain kinds of packing had also been introduced.
The matter has been laid before the council at Rotherham, and a strong resolution has been adopted. A deputation was chosen to wait upon the managers, with a view to obtaining an amicable arrangement of the grievances.
