Mexboro’ 3 Parkgate 0
This match was played at Mexboro’, on Saturday last, but owing to the slippery state of the ground, good play was rendered somewhat difficult. The Mexboro’ captain won the toss and elected to play up hill, against the wind. The ball was set in motion by the visitors, who worked hard in the defence of their goal, but it was soon evident that the Mexboro’ team was too good for them. W. Lidgett first made himself conspicuous by a good side run with the ball, and crossing it in front of his opponents’ goal, when T. Tilson got at it, and by a dexterous screw kick landed the ball through, thus obtaining first goal for the home team. Very shortly hostilities were recommenced, Mexboro’ again obtaining the advantage, as the ball was continually in the visitors’ territories. Shortly before half-time was called, the ball was again put through for Mexboro’ by S. Adey.
On ends being changed, Mexboro’ kicked off from the centre of the field, and with the wind in their favour very shortly another goal was placed to the credit of the home team, secured by F. Lewis. Harris and Carr, for the visitors, made some grand runs with the ball, but only to be repulsed by the Mexboro’ backs. After a scrimmage with the ball near the visitors’ goal, the game ended in an easy victory for the Mexboro’ team by three goals to nil.
Thornhill 3 Conisboro’ 0
