Mexboro’

An early shower on the Retford course on Sunday made conditions ideal for fast times in the annual Marrow club’s “50.” There were 91 entries for the race, including riders from most of the leading clubs in the country. H. L. Coris, of the Barras R.C. (Newcastle), came first in 2hrs. 9mins. 19 3-seconds, and was hard pressed by M. Clark (Barnsley) S. L. Barnes (Mansfield Vic.), who tied for second place.

Local riders who returned good times were H. Coupe, of Swinton, with 2hrs. 16mins. 12 2-secs, and Howard Lambert, of Mexboro’, who was third fastest in the handicaps with 2hrs. 4mins. 22 secs. Ernest and Don Smith, of Mexboro’, brought further honours to the club on Saturday at the Hallamshire Harriers’ sports at Bramall Lane. E. Smith won the quarter and half mile handicaps and D. Smith the old-time bicycle race over a quarter of a mile. F. Oldfield, of Mexboro’ Wheelers, won the ancient and modern race.

On Sunday the East Midlands R.R.A. “100” will be held and on July 30th the Sheffield Sports C.C.’s “25.” Sunday’s club run was to LanehamĀ  Ferry via Blyth and Retford, arriving for lunch. A pleasant afternoon was spent boating on the Trent, followed by a return to Blyth for tea. Sunday’s run will be to Adwick; meet 7 a.m., West Street.
