Mexboro’ Lady’s Seizure
Death in the Night
Bank Manager’s Widow

The death occurred on Tuesday with tragic suddenness of Mrs. Julia Arey, (55), Doncaster Road, Mexborough, widow of Mr. Cecil Herbert Arey, for many years manager of the Midland Bank at Mexborough.
After Mr. Arey’s death at Blackpool, Mrs. Arey has lived in Sheffield, but for the past few months has acted as housekeeper for Mr. William Bell, 188. Doncaster Road, Mexbro.’
At the inquest conducted by Mr. W. H. Carlile, on Wednesday, a verdict of “Natural causes” was recorded.
Mr. William Bell, pawnbroker, said Mrs. Arey had been his housekeeper for thirteen months. He last saw her alive on Monday at 11.45 p.m. She then went to bed. Next morning, the maid took a cup of tea to Mrs. Arey’s room about 7-10 a.m., and called to him, “Oh, Mr. Bell, Mrs. Arey’s on the floor. Will you come.” He went upstairs and immediately sent for the doctor. Dr. Campbell arrived is a few minutes and found that Mrs. Arey was dead. She was very cheerful on Monday night. She had had one or two illnesses since she had been with him, and was attended by the doctor five months ago. She had made no serious complaint recently.
Alice Cope, the maid, said she took up a cup of tea as usual, on Tuesday morning, and found Mrs. Arey stretched out on the floor apparently dead.
Dr. J. J. Huey said he made a post-mortem examination which showed death to be due to cerebral hemorrhage caused by a ruptured blood vessel in the brain, due to arterial sclerosis.
Mrs. Arey was a sister of Mr. A. J. Wilde, of Sheffield, who is well known in the city. The funeral will be at Crookes cemetery, Sheffield, to-day (Friday) at 3 o’clock.
