Sudden Death

A well-known and respected official of the Amalgamated Denaby Collieries died suddenly at his home on Sunday.

He was Mr. Francis Machin (59), of 25, Harlington Road, Mexborough. who for the last eight years had held the position of head weighman at the Denaby Colliery.

A native of Barnsley, Mr. Machin was well known in Mexborough, where he had lived for over 40 years. Mr. Machin had worked at Denaby Colliery since the last war.

He was greatly interested in football, and was secretary of the old Mexborough Football Club when it won the Midland League. Mr. Machin was also fond of cricket, and played for Mexborough many years ago. He leaves a widow, one son, and one daughter.
