Soldier – Briggs, George William – Killed in Action

Gnr. George William Briggs

Mr. J. Briggs, 40, Swinton Road, Mexborough, has received news that his son, Gnr. George William Briggs (30) has been killed in action in Burma.  Gnr. Briggs joined the Army in 1933.

Up to the outbreak of war he remained in this country and then went to France. When the evacuation at Dunkirk began, he was in Belgium, and obtaining a motor cycle escaped with a pal to the Dunkirk area, and was evacuated from there. He was wounded in France and stayed for a short time after the evacuation. He then was sent to India and Burma.

He leaves a wife and one child living at Sheffield
